THE PRIVATE PRESS OF ROY A. SQUIRES: A BIBLIOGRAPHY., (BRADBURY, LOVECRAFT, ROBERT E. HOWARD,LEIBER, CLARK ASHTON SMITH).
1 (BRADBURY, LOVECRAFT, ROBERT E. HOWARD,LEIBER, CLARK ASHTON SMITH). THE PRIVATE PRESS OF ROY A. SQUIRES: A BIBLIOGRAPHY.
Glendale, Calif.: Roy A. Squires, 1987. First Edition. Handsewn into heavy cover papers. As new.
The Private Press of Roy A. Squires' was the noted printer's bibliography of his own printing publications and was ironically the last booklet he printed as he died of cancer the following year. Roy A. Squires was one of Ray Bradbury's earliest friends when the author moved to California, and it was Squires who took Ray to his first LASFAS meeting at Clifton Cafeteria. Squires was also Clark Ashton Smith's friend and literary executor after Smith's death. Squires also met and befriended H. P. Lovecraft's wife - Sonia Greene and Clark Ashton Smith's wife, Carol Dorman. But Squires will best be remembered as the printer/publisher of booklets of the highest quality, printing upon a small primitive press from handset type, utilizing fine papers of authors, Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton smith, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, Frank Belknap Long, and his friend, Phil Garland. Squires printed 39 booklets including this, his bibliography. This state of his bibliography comprise what he termed his "larger paper copy" of 80 numbered copies with leaves tipped-in from six of his publications.

SCIENCE FICTION & MODERN FANTASY: Scarce Books & Rare EphemeraeCatalog 5 by Roy A. Squires., (LOVECRAFT, HEINLEIN, BRADBURY, HOWARD, SMITH) SQUIRES, ROY A.
2 (LOVECRAFT, HEINLEIN, BRADBURY, HOWARD, SMITH) SQUIRES, ROY A. SCIENCE FICTION & MODERN FANTASY: Scarce Books & Rare Ephemerae Catalog 5 by Roy A. Squires.
Glendale, Calif.: Roy A. Squires, First Printing. Staplebound into heavy paper covers. Fine.
An early Roy Squires catalog featuring "exceptionally fine copies of books by H.P. Lovecraft, with copies of books by Heinlein, Campbell, Bradbury, Howard, Leiber, Merritt and Clark Ashton Smith." The Lovecraft books include a complete run of Arkham House titles, plus ephemerae such as the letters and postcards which accompanied, "THE OUTSIDER" and "BEYOND THE WALL OF SLEEP." Additional items of Lovecraft interest are his own copy of Clark Ashton Smith's, "ODES & SONNETS," 15 issues of "THE CALIFORNIAN," both issues of Robert Barlow's, "LEAVES,", a lot of "ACOLYTES," "THE RECLUSE," and one issue of "THE RAINBOW." Plus manuscripts by Clark Ashton Smith...and not to be missed or dismissed, Roy's own lecture, "On the condition of books and descriptions thereof." I still marvel at the Roy Squires catalogs and it's more than forty years later! They are written with such erudition, humor and good taste. Miss him dearly! From the Roy A. Squires archive!

OCTOBER., BRADBURY, RAY.
6 BRADBURY, RAY. OCTOBER.
Los Angeles: Shuttlebop Press, 1983. First printing. Staplebound into stiff wraps. As new.
An uncommon little Ray Bradbury keepsake, being a slim booklet of only 16 pages including covers that quotes the author's previously lost/unknown salute to his favorite month of the year , 'OCTOBER.' This poem had only existed as a primitive recording by Walt Daugherty, upon wax paper, that surfaced in Forrie Ackerman's collection. It was transcribed and published in an edition so limited as to be distributed to friends of the author only. In discussing this item with Bradbury friend/expert/super collector Donn Albright, we reckon there might've been 100 copies printed which is the most Ray would've allowed. Short introduction by Daugherty and Preface by Bradbury. This copy was from the Roy A. Squires collection - friend and publisher of Bradbury!

A wonderful little Egyptian ghost story that the author had designs of expanding into a screenplay. The author's last book, delivered to him in hospital he broke into tears exclaiming "A beautiful & fantastique book!" SIGNED by the artist. "In a ‘‘conversation’’ appended at the back of the book, Bradbury reveals that he got the idea for it from Warner Brothers animator Chuck [Bugs Bunny] Jones, who had stumbled upon the story’s central theme – that 19th-century British engineers crossing Egypt by train had burned mummies as fuel – in an article . . . Artist Gary Gianni has done an exceptional job of visualizing Bradbury’s story, with more than twenty drawings that give personality to the principal characters and that convey both the splendor of ancient Egypt and the grotesquerie of the pursuing mummy legions . . . Bradbury's parting gift to us all" - LOCUS review by Stefan Dziemianowicz. New in mylar sleeve with archival backer.
