CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN: 1962 1975. 23 Issues total!
1 CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN: 1962 1975. 23 Issues total!
North Bergen, N.J. Larry Ivie.
CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN was an early and one of the better challengers to Forrest Ackerman's, FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. "COF" ran to twenty-five issues and one Annual, I offer a nearly complete run, (Issues #1-14; 16-18; 21 - 25 and the 1967 Annual); twenty - three issues total. Illustrated throughout by black & white photographs and printed upon pulp paper. The issues are in good to g+ condition. Not as common as FAMOUS MONSTERS due to spotty distribution, "COF" offered articles on B movies, Fans and Fanzines of the time as well.

FANTASY MAGAZINE. September, 1934 The Digest of Imaginative Literature, (A. MERRITT)
2 (A. MERRITT) FANTASY MAGAZINE. September, 1934 The Digest of Imaginative Literature
New York Conrad H. Ruppert 1934
The excellent 'zine produced by the team of Conrad H. Ruppert, Julius Schwartz, Raymond A. Palmer, Mortimer Weisinger, Milton Kaletsky, and Forrest J. Ackerman - the heavy hitters of Fandom in the 1930's. This slam-bang issue features a short story by A. Merritt entitled, "The Drone," short story, "The Chuckler" by Donald Wandrei, and an interview with Murray Leinster by Will Jenkins (or author interviews "self.") The series COSMOS though mentioned is not present; issues were printed with the ongoing series and without. I think you had to specially subscribe to get COSMOS. A near fine issue of a legendary fanzine/semipro-zine.

DE CAMP: An L. Sprague De Camp Bibliography. [SIGNED], (DE, CAMP, L. SPRAGUE), LAUGHLIN, Charlotte & LEAVACK, Daniel.
3 (DE, CAMP, L. SPRAGUE), LAUGHLIN, Charlotte & LEAVACK, Daniel. DE CAMP: An L. Sprague De Camp Bibliography. [SIGNED]
San Francisco, CA./Columbia, PA. Underwood-Miller, 1983. 0934438714 / 9780934438711 First Edition. Cloth.n Fine. Issued w/o d.j. Jacket Signed
The Underwood/Miller bibliographies are all excellent and it's a shame they didn't continue: The alphabetical listings along with book cover reproductions in the book add to the ease of identification which is sometimes not taken into account with more formal bibliographies. Give me Underwood/Miller anytime! Covers the author's long career: Only three books were published after the bibliogaphy. Still shrinkwraped.

A CRACK IN SPACE, (DICK, PHILIP K.)
4 (DICK, PHILIP K.) A CRACK IN SPACE
Wallington, UK Severn House 1989 [First British Hardcover}
An SF novel from the middle his most productive decade - the 1960's. In typical Dick fashion, middle to lower middle class worker discovers a paralell universe. Blue collar workers were often heroes in his fictions; he always identified with the common man. The paper lightly toned - an unavoidable annoyance of these British editions.

ROBOTS, ANDROIDS, & MECHANICAL ODDITIES The Science Fiction of Philip K. Dick, (DICK, Philip K.) Edited by Patricia S. Warrick & Martin H. Greenberg
5 (DICK, Philip K.) Edited by Patricia S. Warrick & Martin H. Greenberg ROBOTS, ANDROIDS, & MECHANICAL ODDITIES The Science Fiction of Philip K. Dick
Carbondale & Edwardsville Southern Illinois University Press 1984 [First edition]
A collection of fifteen, PKD short stories devoted to the question he posed often: What is human? What is machine? What is the difference? It's an interesting selection covering Dick's creative career - 1952 to 1980, to see how the themes continued to interest him throughout his life, and how his views evolved. An unread copy in d.j., still shrinkwrapped.

PHILIP K. DICK: THE LEST TESTAMENT, (DICK, PHILIP K.) Gregg Rickman
6 (DICK, PHILIP K.) Gregg Rickman PHILIP K. DICK: THE LEST TESTAMENT
Long Beach, California Fragments West/The Valentine press 1985 [First edition}
The companion volume to the author's first book on PKD - "PHILIP K. DICK: IN HIS OWN WORDS," although this book focusses primarily on Phil's "visions" & philosophy and especially his VALIS experiences. PKD was a very sensitive, caring individual, more considerate of others than himself and these human qualities come through most accurately in his own words in Rickman's books. Wraps. Fine copy.

(H.P. LOVECRAFT) CRYPT OF CTHULHU Edited by Robert M. Price: 1st 85 issues!, (H.P. LOVECRAFT) Robert M. Price, editor.
7 (H.P. LOVECRAFT) Robert M. Price, editor. (H.P. LOVECRAFT) CRYPT OF CTHULHU Edited by Robert M. Price: 1st 85 issues!

CRYPT OF CTHULHU evolved from a one-man-24-page effort to a 64-page publication that become the premiere H.P. Lovecraft journal for more than a decade. Editor Robert M. Price wrote every article in the first issue and even illustrated it as well! The 2nd issue received contributions in addition to the editor from Charles Garofalo, Ronald Shearer, and C.J. Henderson; by the time issue #9 came around, "COC" had attracted the Lovecraft Illuminati: S.T. Joshi, Peter Cannon, Will Murray, Lin Carter, Colin Wilson, Don Burleson, Darrell Schweitzer, Richard L. Tierney, and artist Jason Eckhardt who's illustration would grace many of its covers. COC would not only publish noteworthy articles on H.P. Lovecraft and his work, but poetry, unpublished fragments, letters, false-starts, etc., by HPL and other notables including, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, E. Hoffmann Price and other members of the HPL circle of acquaintances, and tales by the current Cabal of Lovecraft-styled fictions. The first 10 issues are especially difficult to acquire, with the first three or four, seem to move underground from collector to collector without ever coming to the mainstream market. Never seen another such set offered! I am also including variant issues and SHUDDER STORIES #1, and RISQUE STORIES #1, also published by CRYPT OF CTHULHU. Bringing the total to around 90 issues.

This issue would interest you pulp collectors as it devotes itself to the finest SF pulp of its era, ASTOUNDING, featuring interviews with F. Orlin Tremaine, editor, Desmond Hall, asistant editor, and ASTOUNDING artist, Elliott Dold; continues its conversation will William Fitzgerald Jenkins and why he uses a pen-name - and the MURRAY LEINSTER pseudonym is pronounced "Len-ster" after the Irish kings.
