The Underwood/Miller bibliographies are all excellent and it's a shame they didn't continue: The alphabetical listings along with book cover reproductions in the book add to the ease of identification which is sometimes not taken into account with more formal bibliographies. Give me Underwood/Miller anytime! Covers the author's long career: Only three books were published after the bibliogaphy. Still shrinkwraped.

1943
Three letters and one postcard from Frank Torbett — friend and collaborator on the tale, A THUNDER OF TRUMPETS with Robert E. Howard. The letters are all dated 1943 and are in response to requests from F.(Franklin) Lee Baldwin, noted fan and one of the contributing editors to fan/magazine, THE ACOLYTE. Baldwin was seeking information about REH's background —"I will be glad to give you any information I can in regard to Robert E. Howard. For some years he and I were intimate friends. His family and mine were good friends . . . He was intellectual and possessed an outstanding personality . . . He was very loyal to his friends and devoted to his parents . . . He spent most of his time writing and studying . . . Did not mix with people much. Had very few intimate friends." Nice to have some interesting insights related from his own era. The letters are all signed in black fountain pen and in excellent condition.

Baltimore Jack Chalker & Associates 1963 [First edition]
IN MEMORIAM: CLARK ASHTON SMITH, was the first study/literary salute from other authors who admired or were influenced by the fictions of the noted WEIRD TALES writer, and intimate friends of the author. Participating in these acknowledgements were Ray Bradbury with his INTRODUCTION — "Looking back over the years . . . I remember two stories. Both were by Clark Ashton Smith . . . THE CITY OF THE SINGING FLAME and MASTER OF THE ASTEROID. These stories . . . more than any others . . . had everything to do with my decision . . . to become a writer:" a poem — CLARK ASHTON SMITH — by Theodore Sturgeon; the first appearance of Donald Sidney-Fryer's notable biography of CAS — THE SORCERER DEPARTS; AUTOBIOGRAPHY — by CAS himself; AS I REMEMBER KLARKASH-TON — by his friend in later years, George Haas; THE PROSE TALES OF CLARK ASHTON SMITH — by L. Sprague deCamp; CLARK ASHTON SMITH: AN APPRECIATION — by Fritz Leiber, Jr., "Smith's tales remind me of Innsmouth Jewelry, they're liking finding in a thieves market, strange ornaments, the metal elaborately inlaid and fired, studded with unknown, semi precious stones, all of them suggesting an unknown culture, most rigidley taboo-bound, a culture standing by itself, a timeless culture, the stone graved culture of a hot dry land;" and also includes the tal — THE WEIRD OF AVOOSL WUTHOQQUAN, and the previously unpublished play — THE DEAD WILL CUCKOLD YOU. Published within two years of the author's death and reading it now more than fifty years after, CAS: IN MEMORIAM remains one of the finest documents yet done on this neglected author. Of the total edition of 387 copies published of only 10 were HARDBOUND, in black Arkham House styled binding; only 4 COPIES were released for Sale, the other 6 went to the publisher, the author's widow and Roy A. Squires.
