Fourteen stories harvested from WEIRD TALES magazine, with a 5-1/2 page introduction by Robert H. Barlow. Whitehead lead a colorful existence but did not begin serious fictioneering until he was stationed in the Virgin Islands for nine years as an Episcopal archdeacon. Barlow notes that Whitehead " . . . was a craftsman in his life and in his writing. . . his stories are the product of a cultivated and reflective mind and of an organized and dexterous pen." HPL was very fond of him. A few fingerptints to blue-black cloth; one oorner just nubbed, light dusting to page-edges; lightly rubbed d.j. with slight fade to spine—far less than usual. This is a very nice tight copy. A strong example from the Richard M. Jefts complete Arkham House collection. #RMJ21.
