Herman C. Koenig was an avid collector of shpernatural fiction and horror books, long before it was an established pastime. It was Koenig who introduced H.P. Lovecraft to the more serious of Hodgson's fiction—The House on the Borderland, and The Night Land, which prompted HPL to add Hodgson to his ever growing essay—Supernatural Fiction in Literature. His article in this issue of THE FOSSIL, entitled, "More Notes on Literary Detectives," Koenig explores the literary forger, Thomas Wise, and did Christopher Marlowe write Shakespeare's Plays? A photograph of Koenig is reproduced in the issue. No Lovecraft references, but fascinating reading by a very learned bibliographer. From the Hyman Bradofsky collection.
