Once the paychecks ran out from Rinehart, August Derleth began issuing anthologies under his own Arkham House imprint. NIGHT'S YAWNING PEAL, is the first of these anthologies. Fifteen tales, many by Arkham House authors, Robert Bloch, Manly Wade Wellman, Derleth, Lovecraft, and the Brits. An eerie d.j., designed by Robert Crane, and one wonders why Derleth didn't continue to use this very well suited artist. Printed by Pellegrini & Cudahy on their inferior paper. One again wonders why Derleth went in this direction? A small chip and some wear at extremeties; some soiling, but not too intrusive, and some foxing at edges. But still a v.g.- copy in like d.j., of an excellent anthology.
