By: SMITH, Clark Ashton

Price: $150.00

Quantity: 1 available

Submitted to Arkham House in 1949, SELECTED POEMS was a career-spanning selection by Smith himself, of his best work, with many early poems revised or rewritten, including his epic THE HASHISH-EATER which is here presented in its final version (personally, I prefer it's first version as presented in EBONY & CRYSTAL, in 1922). Smith considered SELECTED POEMS his greatest book, because he first and foremost thought of himself as a poet. Unfortunately the delays in publication due to economic concerns of such a hefty volume of poetry, then additional frictions between Derleth and Carolyn Smith—the author's wife. Smith did not live to see its eventual appearance in print. Over 500 poems. [Only 2118 copies printed]. This is an exceptional copy; very fine, unread with white paper and just a few tiny rubs to d.j. A lovely copy!
