Clark Ashton Smith's second book, and his most beautiful. Printed letterpress upon fine papers by the noted San Francisco printers—Taylor & Taylor. San Francisco at this time was the center of fine press printing in the country. Only 300 numbered copies were printed. A scarce title, and a heavily collected title, as it is desired by Book Club of California collectors, and Clark Ashton Smith collectors. Includes a very personable, typed signed letter from Sam Moskowitz to Mrs. Clark Ashton Smith, dated June 27, 1965, "I had helped Leo Marguiles assemble a collection of outstanding stories from the old Weird Tales magazine and among those I selected was MOTHER OF TOADS, which I had admired ever since I initially read it. Leo Marguiles owns the rights to the old Weird Tales magazine, and has the rights to reprint stories from it. However, he is in agreement that he would like to send you a token payment of $15 for MOTHER OF TOADS, and I am also enclosing a copy of WORLDS OF WEIRD in which it appeared. . . I have read his (Clark's) work since 1933 and own all his books (except Sandalwood, which I will eventually run across- - it took me 25 years to locate a copy of ODES & SONNETS. . . " A little aging to spine, else a near fine copy. Issued w/o d.j. Housed in a beautiful Gray Parrot leather-spined traycase. A scarce Clark Ashton Smith title.
